New York, May 22nd, 2023.- Today the spring mini-festival of the Havana Film Festival NY continues, which on this occasion brings six exponents of the Island's cinematography.
The current edition pays tribute to the documentary filmmaker Sara Gómez, the first Cuban woman film director, at which time the documentaries restored and subtitled in English were chosen: Iré a Santiago (1964), Guanabacoa: Crónica de mi familia (1966), … And we have flavor (1967) and the feature film In a Certain Way (1977).
Another novelty that this exhibition highlights is the American premiere of the new film by filmmaker Kiki Álvarez: The Black Box which, according to critics, has a plot regarding one of the most transcendental historical events of the 20th century: the Cuban Revolution in January of 1959.
The titles: The Campaign by Eduardo del Llano, The Dead Son by Maysel Bello and The Sound of Music by Arturo Soto, are announced as other installments to be enjoyed by the interested public.
On the other hand, it is reported that to close the Festival next Thursday, May 25, you will be able to see the film Farándula by the actor and playwright Jazz Vilá. This is his debut feature, a comedy based on the popular play of the same name and written by the director himself.
