An original act of presentation of the book José Martí and “the Greek” took place last Friday night (10/12) in the city of Veria, Central Macedonia, Greece, located more than 500 kilometers north of Athens, where actors and musicians let us hear, live, musicalized fragments of the aforementioned work. It was an unexpected, exciting moment.
Thanks to the organizers of this event, to the dozens of people who gathered at the House of Letters and Arts, several of them from the city of Thessaloniki, as well as from the village of Trílofos.
Thank you for his words of welcome, and about the book, to the mayor of the city of Veria, Mr. Konstantinos Voriazidis; to Kostas Rizos, president of the municipality's Public Benefit Entity for Multiple Development (KEPA); to the journalist Alekos Xatchicostas; to Evgenia Kavalaria, president of the Imathian Philologists Association; To the Editorial TOPOS, as well as to the Iliotropio bookstore, in the city of Vería. Thank you for your analysis, meticulous study of the modest work that is presented, for your deep and detailed reception of José Martí and “the Greek”; but above all for his love for Cuba, for his unfailing solidarity with his historical and current struggles. The event also had the greeting of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Hellenic Republic, Zelmys Domínguez Cortina.
Special thanks to the actors and musicians who presented in such a creative and unforgettable way the musical reception of José Martí and “the Greek”: they are, Petros Ristas, Sissy Georgopoulou, Eleni Karagianni, Leftheris Koryfidis and Dimitris Tajmatzidis.
Heartfelt thanks to the painter Giorgos Kotzarridis, for his paintings on wood of two historical combatants of the Greek Revolution of 1821, Theodoros Kolokotronis (1770-1843) and Lascarina Bouvulina (1771-1825), and it is that José Martí referred in more than an occasion to the struggles of Greece for its national independence against all empires, and took from them examples for the heroic battles of the Cuban people: for those of yesterday, those of today, and those of tomorrow.
Various written media and Veria digital sites have reflected vividly on their pages and continue to reflect the presentation of this book, as can be seen in the images.
There are three cities in Greece where José Martí and “the Greek”have performed: Lefkada, Kalamata and Veria. Two new and consecutive launches will soon take place in the city of Athens: one at the Amphitheater of the important Athens War Museum, on the evening of December 14, 2021; and another at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Athens, on the afternoon of December 15, 2021, where after the presentation of José Martí and “the Greek”, just published in the Greek language and in the year of the 200th anniversary of the independence of Greece, the Russian folk ensemble, Young Virtuosi, will perform, made up of artists with the category of high virtuous masters, under the direction of the world-renowned artistic director Serguei Rolduguin.
Thanks to the prestigious Center for Marti Studies of our Homeland for the dissemination of these actions, which will always be few when dealing with the life and work of the Cuban National Hero.
