The Governor General of Barbados, Her Excellency Sandra Prunella Mason, offered a warm welcome to the delegation headed by Cuban Vice Chancellor Rogelio Sierra, accompanied by the Director of the Caribbean and Central America, Jorge Luis Mayo and the Cuban Ambassador, Francisco Fernández, meeting which served for the congratulatory message sent by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez was extended to her for her recent appointment to that post, while it was reciprocated by the Governor General since he was also recently elected. The Vice Minister highlighted the historical bonds of brotherhood that unite Barbados and Cuba, in particular the excellent state of bilateral relations, after overcoming its 45 years of uninterrupted development, since in 1972 the first four independent Caribbean countries decided to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba. For her part, the Governor recalled her visit to Cuba in the decade of the '90s, when she met Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, an occasion in which she said she was pleasantly impressed by the work of the Cuban Revolution for the Cuban people and its potential for our region.
