The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, received the Vice President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, Mercedes López Acea at the Flagstaff House.
During the meeting, the Ghanaian Vice-President addressed the support that Cuba provided to the national liberation struggle in the continent, and highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations.
The Vice President Bawumia, who is in charge of the main socio-economic programs, explained to the Cuban Vice President that they are destined to eradicate the poverty in Ghana. He pointed out the possibility that Cuba and Ghana cooperate in the strategy of exporting raw materials with Added Value. Dr. Bawumia stressed the need to work together to address the malaria pandemic in Ghana and in the West African sub-region, a topic that has had a wide impact on the Ghanaian media.
The Vice President Lopez Acea praised Ghana for its political stability and for its role in subregional security. She announced that Cuba was interested in deepening cooperation ties and also communicated to the Vice President of Ghana that she was aware of the excellent results obtained by the youths Ghanaians who are studying Medicine in Cuban Medical Universities.
The Cuban Vice President was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ana Teresita González; the Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro L. Despaigne González and the Ambassador Sidenio Acosta, an official of the Sub-Saharan Africa Directorate of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the Ghanaian side were the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Mohammad Habibu Tijani, and the Ambassador of Ghana to Cuba, Mr. Napoleon Abdulai.
