Harare, January 26, 2024- The Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa presided over the official inauguration of Fidel Castro Street, during his visit to the sister nation of Zimbabwe. Present at the event were the delegation that accompanied the Cuban leader, the Chargé d'Affaires in Harare, Ambassador Yenielys Vilma Regueiferos Linares, members of the State Mission and the Cuban Medical Brigade, collaborators of the Ministry of Higher Education, representatives of the Diplomatic Corp and of the Zimbabwe-Cuba Friendship Association, Cuban residents and Zimbabweans who graduated in Cuba.
On the Zimbabwean side, the Vice President of the Republic, Honorable Kembo Mohadi, directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and government officials witnessed the emotional event.
In 2020, the naming of Fidel Castro Ruz Street was approved by the Zimbabwean parliament in honor of his valuable contribution to the African continent.
The Cuban Vice President highlighted in his speech that Fidel Castro Street represents the honor and memory of an icon who came to Harare in 1986 for the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and symbolizes the resilience and fighting spirit of the Commander in Chief, who went on to immortality fighting for the end of colonialism and the hegemonic stance of the West.
