The vice presidents of the Parliaments of Cuba and Laos hold fruitful meetings

Vientiane, March 2024. Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, and her counterpart from Laos, Sounthone Xayachack, held meetings in Geneva, where they ratified the mutual interest in continuing to develop parliamentary relations.

The Cuban parliamentary leader exchanged with her partner in the context of the 148th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU). During the dialogue, the parties recalled the positive official visit of Mari Machado to Laos in September 2023 and reaffirmed the historical ties of friendship and brotherhood between the people of both nations.

Mari Machado led the Cuban delegation at the event, and during the last days she held similar meetings with authorities from Algeria, Cyprus, Palestine and Nigeria.

The Assembly will continue until March 27 with the participation of all the statutory bodies of the IPU, including the Governing Council, the Standing Committees, the Committees on Human Rights of Parliamentarians and Middle East Issues, the Forum of Parliamentary Women and the Forum of Young Deputies.

The overall theme of the event focuses on Parliamentary Diplomacy: building bridges for peace and understanding and will provide a platform for delegates to deliberate, exchange views and drive parliamentary action in this area.
