Vietnam and Cuba celebrate VI Round of Political Consultations

Vietnam and Cuba reviewed their bilateral agenda during the VI Round of Political Consultations between the two foreign ministries, held in virtual format on March 2nd.

Chaired by the First Deputy Ministers of Foreign Relations, Marcelino Medina González and Bui Thanh Son, the event was the occasion for an exchange on the bilateral milestones since the V Political Consultation and other topics in the international arena.

Both representatives highlighted the special relations of friendship and brotherhood between the two countries, with emphasis on the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, on December 2nd.

The diplomats recalled the two recent telephone conversations between the top leaders of the Communist Party of each country, as an expression of the high level of political dialogue and the historical nature of the binational ties.

The parties praised the solidarity actions between political and state institutions, and the peoples of Vietnam and Cuba in the context of COVID-19, and agreed on the potential to expand cooperation in confronting the disease.

Regarding the international agenda, Vietnam reiterated its invariable position of condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for almost six decades.

By focusing on the advances and perspectives of the economic-commercial links, the representatives stressed the importance of identifying key sectors for cooperation and investment, as well as the follow-up to the agreements of the 38th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific Collaboration- Technique, held online in December 2020.

Accompanying the First Deputy Minister of Cuba, the Director General of Bilateral Affairs, the Director of Multilateral Political Affairs and the Director of Asia and Oceania of the Minrex.

Both countries held their V Round of Political Consultations in September 2019 in Havana.
