Movements in solidarity with Cuba will hold a vigil today in the city of Vancouver to demand the end of the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States has maintained for more than 60 years against the island.
In declarations to Prensa Latina, the coordinator of the solidarity project Bridges of Love, Carlos Lazo, said that the initiative is part of others that will take place during this month to advocate for the normalization of relations between the White House and Havana and the cessation of hostilities from the northern country.
"There will be brothers in solidarity who will defend the construction of bridges of love with Cuba and will demand U.S. President Joe Biden to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than six decades," said Lazo.
According to Lazo, participants in the activity will demand Washington to accelerate the process of family reunification in its embassy in Havana, enhance the process of sending remittances to relatives in the Caribbean nation, and promote broad cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The attendees will also request the immediate elimination of all measures that hinder the flow of food, medical supplies and other basic resources to Cuba, as well as lifting the limits imposed on the right to travel freely to the island territory to all citizens and residents on northern soil.
"Our goal is to mobilize those who share these views in a peaceful and effective manner to demonstrate that the true sentiment of the majority of South Florida residents is to build Bridges of Love with the Cuban people," Lazo insisted.
A vigil similar to the one that will take place in Vancouver, on the west coast of the Canadian nation of British Columbia, will be held at the international airport of the city of Miami, United States, next Wednesday.
