VISIT TO ISLAND OF SALAMIS

I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful island of Salamis, where I met with Mayor Giorgios Panagopoulos at the town hall. There, we discussed the history of our peoples and the bonds of friendship that unite us.

The Battle of Salamis, fought in 480 BC in the Saronic Gulf, is well known as a decisive naval engagement between the Greek forces and the Persian Empire. It resulted in a significant victory for the Greeks and halted Persian expansion in Greece.

Together with the mayor, we visited the Municipality of Salamis' Digital Culture Park, located in the new Ampelakia library building. This park highlights the history and cultural heritage of Salamis using modern digital, audiovisual, and interactive technologies. We also visited the impressive Orsa Olive Tree, which, at 2,530 years old, is the only living remnant of the Battle of Salamis, planted by Pisistratus.
