The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, travelled to the Russian Federation, where he will carry out a busy work programme to address the priorities of the bilateral agenda following the re-election of President Vladimir Putin. He is making this visit in the framework of the 64th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He will be a guest at today's parade on Red Square on 7 May to mark the 79th anniversary of the Victory of the Great Patriotic War. He will hold meetings with President Vladimir Putin and other Putinist leaders.
He will also participate in the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, to which Cuba has been an observer state since 11 December 2020 of the EEU, following the resolution adopted by its Council in October of that year. The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is the highest conclave of the organisation, which brings together the heads of state of the member countries. The Cuban President will participate for the first time, in person, in this summit, although since December 2020 he will do so virtually twice a year, when the summits are held, usually in May and December of each year.
