Viva Cuba!
Statement of the St. Kitts and Nevis Cuban Alumni Association
Cuba has long been a dedicated ally to the Caribbean nations, contributing significantly to the region’s social and economic development. The island has provided support in various sectors, especially in healthcare, where Cuban doctors, nurses, and medical professionals have volunteered their expertise across the Caribbean. Thousands of Cuban-trained medical personnel have helped improve the health sector in nations that otherwise might not have the resources for such care. In addition to healthcare, Cuba has provided scholarships for Caribbean students, enabling many to receive higher education in a variety of fields.
Cuba’s efforts go beyond mere diplomatic relations; it has shared vital technical knowledge and resources with Caribbean nations in times of disaster and crisis, demonstrating its commitment to regional solidarity. These long-standing ties are not based on economic exchanges but on mutual respect and shared struggles against external forces that aim to undermine the region’s independence and development.
Given this history of support, Caribbean leaders should remain steadfast in their relationship with Cuba, despite pressure from external forces, including the United States, to isolate the country or impose sanctions. These external demands often fail to recognize the immense contributions Cuba has made to the well-being of Caribbean nations.
Caribbean leaders should not allow these pressures to dictate their foreign policy or jeopardize the health and educational gains their people have benefitted from. Cuba’s unwavering friendship and contributions are an invaluable asset that should be safeguarded, regardless of the consequences.
In solidarity, the Caribbean region should stand united with Cuba, prioritizing the long-term benefits of cooperation, shared values, and mutual respect over the short-term pressures from powerful external actors.
