Nairobi, February 21, 2022- The opening of the informal negotiations and the preparatory workshops of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2), took place in Kenya. The Fifth Open-Ended Commitee of the Permanent Representatives (OECPR 5.2) kicked off the event, which runs from February 21 to March 4, and will conclude with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
For two weeks, decisions and mandates will be agreed upon for the environmental work which will set the course for UNEP and its member states's work for the next two years. Topics such as marine pollution and plastics; nature-based solutions and biodiversity; chemicals and minerals; green recovery and circular economy; among other administrative and organizational issues, will be on the spotlight for delegations from all over the world gathering in Nairobi.
