Castries, January 21st , 2019. The members of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Saint Lucia, this past Saturday, held a meeting to carry out an assessment the work carried during the year 2018, during which the Head of the Brigade, Dr. José Luis López, highlighted in detail the main results reached and the proposed objectives for 2019. Medical cooperation and collaboration between Cuba and Saint Lucia will mark 18 years next month, February, while this past January 12th marked the tenth Anniversary since the opening of the Ophthalmological Centre at Victoria Hospital. During this period, the work of the Cuban Health professionals and Specialists on the island has been highlighted and shows the solidarity and the cooperation that have guided the bilateral relations. Today the Brigade is composed of 26 members, who, according to Dr José Luis López, have attended to close to 45,000 patients, of whom almost 17,000 were attended to by the Ophthalmological Centre during 2018. It was pointed out that 123 human lives were saved and the preventive and community work carried out was recognized. The Cuban Ambassador, Alejandro Simancas participated in the meeting, congratulated the Doctors and Specialists and encouraged them to continue being dignified representatives of Cuba in Saint Lucia
