Geneva, April 23, 2024 - The new Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Celeste Saulo, welcomed the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Cuba in Geneva, Juan Antonio Quintanilla Román.
The meeting confirmed the good state of the organization's bilateral relations with Cuba, and in particular with its meteorological service, the Institute of Meteorology.
Both parties discussed ways of extending and strengthening cooperation. The Caribbean island's human capital in this field and the priority it gives to meteorological services as an essential tool for progress in disaster risk reduction were recognized.
The Cuban representative reiterated his denunciation of the US blockade and its impact in this field, while reaffirming his country's commitment to the organization's mandate and work.
