The world rises up against the blockade.

New York, October 26, 2018. The international community has come out strongly against the blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba since 1962. The most striking example occurred on 1 November 2017, when the United Nations General Assembly approved for the twenty-sixth consecutive time the resolution entitled "Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba," with 191 votes in favor and only 2 votes against, the votes of the United States and Israel.

On 13 September 2017, in the framework of the 36th session of the Human Rights Council, the negative impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba was denounced and a call was made for its total elimination, through the statements of 24 developing countries, in addition to the African Group. The following day, the biennial debate on unilateral coercive measures was held, in which the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Group, the Group of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and 15 developing countries spoke out to further denounce this policy.

Other spaces where pronouncements against the blockade have been made are: the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 and China on 22 September 2017 in New York; the Latin American Economic System (SELA) during its ministerial session in Caracas on 29 November 2017; the 106th session of the Council of Ministers of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, meeting in Brussels, Belgium, from 5 to 6 December 2017; the 30th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, held on 30 January 2018, and the 18th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, that took place from 3 to 6 April 2018 in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan.

At the same time, personalities and organizations such as U.S. Pastors for Peace; Calvary Baptist Church in Washington DC; the World Federation of Trade Unions; Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) Senator Roberto Requião; the Russian cosmonaut, Hero of the Russian Federation and deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly, Roman Romanenko; Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Menchú; the Jamaican Parliament; Nobel Prize in Physics laureate and deputy to the Russian Federation State Duma, Zhorés Alfiórov; the 13th World Social Forum of Salvador de Bahia, Brazil; among others, have publicly expressed their rejection of a policy that harms in the first instance a people and its right to development.
