XVI Meeting of the Working Group on Migratory and Consular Affairs between the Republic of Cuba and the United Mexican States begins.

Havana, May 14th, 2024. - The XVI Meeting of the Working Group on Migratory and Consular Affairs between the Republic of Cuba and the United Mexican States took place this Tuesday, chaired by Carlos Fernández de Cossío Domínguez, Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas, Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, respectively.

 

The working sessions, held in a cordial and mutually respectful atmosphere, were conducted in line with the excellent state of bilateral relations. The delegations analysed the behaviour of the migratory flow between Cuba and Mexico, including the illicit activities associated with it. It was also discussed the state of implementation of the Memorandum on Migratory Matters in force between both countries, the need for an adequate legal framework to guarantee a regular, orderly and safe migration, as well as the fight against human trafficking and the illegal smuggling of migrants.

 

Both parties emphasised the value of this type of meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to continue joint actions to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the migration and consular field.
