Young people from the Pacific graduate with medical degrees from Cuban universities.

Havana, July 25, 2026. — In an emotional ceremony, young people from various countries around the world celebrated the successful completion of their higher education as they received their medical degrees in Cuba. Notable among the graduates are Dr. Karen Neva Ehmes, from the Federated States of Micronesia, and Dr. Mwerunte Terikaua, from Kiribati.

Both professionals are part of a graduating class of more than 580 young people from 73 countries who completed their training on the island. With this achievement, the new doctors will bring high-level medical knowledge, scientific rigor, and a humanistic approach back to their communities and local health systems.

Through this academic achievement, Cuba reaffirms its historic commitment to international cooperation, promoting the training of highly qualified specialists and strengthening access to healthcare globally.
