The Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP) informed the people that, as part of the protection measures established at the national level to prevent the expansion of the coronavirus for any country in the world, some people have been isolated in the nation that in the last 14 days they were in China and other countries with the presence of the virus.
According to Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology at MINSAP, these people had symptoms similar to those of the coronavirus, and therefore they were admitted to the IPK and “the occasional hospital” of the island, however it has not confirmed that none suffer from the disease, "therefore we can say that in Cuba we have no confirmed case until now," said the specialist.
Durán also explained that, so far, the measures to prevent the disease are those of personal protection because it is a respiratory transmission disease for which there is still no effective treatment.
Until now "a symptomatic treatment" is applied, explained the specialist because fever and cough are treated, although since yesterday morning an article circulates arguing the good results of a combination of an antiviral with an antiretroviral, but that treatment It is in the trial phase in patients.
After the transmission this Monday of the interview in the national news where the MINSAP official offered these statements, which transmit calm to the population in the midst of the global alert issued by the World Health Organization, a wave of rumors has been generated in Internet with the aim of fueling confusion.
It is not the first rumor about it. Given the confusion generated by the appearance in the social networks of information that expresses the existence of a case of coronavirus in Santa Clara County, it should be clarified that it is a man who carries the virus in that county of California, United States United.
The confusion is given because in the capital of the province of Villa Clara there is also a distribution with the name of County, which generated the false alarm. But to date, there are no cases of coronaviruses in Cuba.
CUBA PREVENTIVE MEASURES
The measure of isolating people with symptoms similar to those of the disease and from countries in which the coronavirus has been detected, is part of the strategy outlined by the Cuban Government to prevent the entry of this condition into Cuba.
On January 28, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Ángel Portal Miranda and the head of the National General Staff of Civil Defense, division general Ramón Pardo Guerra, chaired a working meeting with several agencies of the Central State Administration to analyze the country's action plan in the face of the new contingency.
Recently, the Council of Ministers, held last Wednesday, approved a Plan for the Prevention and Control of the so-called "Wuhan pneumonia", a Chinese city where the first patients with that condition were reported, which is transmitted, in essence, through the drops of saliva that the virus carrier emits when coughing or sneezing.
Given this reality and the fact that to date there is still no effective medication to control the symptoms and the person-to-person infection of the disease, our country, which to date does not report any case of this deadly virus, is proposed, as explained by the Ministry of Public Health, to minimize the risk of introduction and dissemination of the coronavirus in the national territory and minimize the negative effects of an epidemic on the health of the population and its impact on the social-economic sphere.
To this end, it is planned to protect the country's border, based on international health control regulations, in force at the points of entry to contain the arrival of sick travelers, through airports, ports and marinas, in addition to ensuring Strict compliance with surveillance and control measures on those arriving, from areas with transmission, after their arrival.
Likewise, it has been determined that these measures have to be implemented not only by Public Health, but also by other agencies of the Central State Administration, for which a temporary working group has been created for the direction of prevention and prevention actions. preparation before the new coronavirus.
Similarly, epidemiological surveillance and the organization of medical surveillance have been strengthened at different levels of the Cuban health system for care in all care units where any case with suspected virus may occur.
In addition, a training process has been prepared for all public health personnel for diagnosis and care in our country, while indications have been given for the protection of Cuban personnel who fulfill international missions
