Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust expresses solidarity with the People and Government of Cuba in the face of US escalation

Harare, May 8, 2026 – The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust (ZAST) today expressed its unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Cuba following the recent escalation of unilateral coercive measures by the United States government on May 1 and 7, 2026.

ZAST strongly condemns the intensification of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade, actions that cause suffering to innocent civilians, undermine national development, and violate the fundamental principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and peaceful coexistence among nations.

As a people who have suffered the painful consequences of illegal sanctions, the statement indicates, the people of Zimbabwe understand the devastating humanitarian, economic, and social impact of externally imposed coercive measures.

In this regard, he added, we unconditionally support Cuba in its legitimate struggle for economic justice, sovereignty, dignity, and self-determination.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust rejects the weaponisation of economic power as an instrument of political coercion. Such actions are contrary to the spirit of the UN Charter, international law, and humanity's collective aspirations for peace, development, and mutual respect.

We call on the international community, progressive movements, civil society organizations, and all defenders of justice worldwide to raise a single voice against the blockade of Cuba.

We also urge opposition to all forms of unilateral sanctions that seek to punish sovereign nations for choosing their own path of development.

The statement of solidarity concludes with the affirmation that an injustice against a free people is an injustice against all humanity. Zimbabwe, Africa, and justice stand with Cuba.
