Zimbabwe-Cuba: Potential for Collaboration in Higher Education

Harare, March 21, 2025—The Cuban Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Susellys Perez Mesa, and Dr. Lazarus Dokora, UNESCO representative and Director of Communication and Languages ​​at the Bindura University of Science Education, discussed the potential of the historic collaboration between the two countries.

   During a pleasant and fruitful working meeting, the Head of the Diplomatic Mission and the former Minister of Education discussed new opportunities for cooperation in various fields with institutions on the island.

   Language teaching and development and the establishment of reciprocal information channels were among the areas identified for future promotion between Cuban counterparts and the University, located approximately 90 kilometers south of Harare.

   The Ambassador spoke with Dokora about the current situation in the Caribbean nation and the impact of the United States blockade, following its intensification with additional measures adopted by the new administration in Washington.

   She also acknowledged Zimbabwe's stance, expressed by its President, Hon. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, against the United States blockade and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.

   Dokora and the members of her delegation fondly recalled their years in the Caribbean country, leading Zimbabwean students who studied, particularly on the Isla de la Juventud.
