Zimbabwe Fund ZAST condemns intensified US blockade of Cuba

Harare, February 1, 2026 – The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Fund (ZAST) today expressed its unwavering solidarity with Cuba following the intensification of the illegal, immoral, and inhumane US economic blockade, which seeks to prevent fuel deliveries to the island.

ZAST strongly condemns President Donald Trump’s executive order, which falsely declares a so-called “national emergency” and seeks to intimidate and punish sovereign states for trading with the Caribbean nation.

This unilateral action represents a dangerous escalation of economic warfare and a clear attempt to coerce third countries through threats, blackmail, and extraterritorial sanctions, the Zimbabwean fund’s statement emphasized.

Washington’s justification of labeling Cuba an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to U.S. security is false, irrational, and offensive, demonstrating a disregard for truth, international law, and ethical governance in pursuit of imperial domination.

We observe—the text indicated—with profound concern this flagrant violation of the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, and the right of nations to choose their economic and political systems, as well as its undermining of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

For more than six decades, the United States has failed to subjugate or dismantle the Cuban Revolution through economic strangulation, political isolation, and relentless propaganda.

Despite this hostility, Cuba remains a beacon of sovereignty, social justice, solidarity, and peaceful cooperation, providing medical assistance, education, and humanitarian aid to countries around the world, including in Africa.

As a people who have suffered the destructive impact of illegal unilateral measures, Zimbabweans understand the human cost of economic warfare and unequivocally reject the use of sanctions as a tool of punishment.

The ZAST affirmed that Cuba poses no threat to any nation and has consistently demonstrated its commitment to peace, dialogue, mutual respect, and international cooperation.

We call upon the international community, progressive movements, civil society organizations, and peace-loving nations to reject this escalation, demand the immediate and unconditional end of the US blockade, and oppose all forms of unilateral coercive measures.

History, the statement asserted, demonstrates that imperial aggression fails in the face of solidarity, justice, and self-determination, while also noting that Cuba is not alone and counts Zimbabwe among many other countries on its side.
