Zimbabwean Youth Urge Aid to Cuba After Hurricane Melissa

Harare, November 3, 2025 – The Volunteer Troops for Sustainable Development (VTSD) of Zimbabwe today urged the youth of the African nation to join the recovery efforts in Cuba following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

A statement from the youth organization expresses deep solidarity with the people and government of the island for the destruction caused by the storm in the eastern part of the country.

Cuba, the document states, remains a steadfast friend and partner of developing nations, consistently demonstrating its spirit of internationalism, compassion, and cooperation in times of adversity.

The statement also notes that the volunteer troops stand with the Cuban people and their work for recovery and reconstruction, extending their deepest sympathy to those affected by Melissa. The text, delivered to Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa by National Coordinator Taurai Anesu Mvokwe, adds that the VTSD is united with the Cuban people and their efforts for recovery and reconstruction.

We encourage Zimbabweans, particularly young people and volunteer communities, to support the ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Cuba.

The declaration concludes with a call to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between Cuba and Zimbabwe and the collective pursuit of a world based on peace, empathy and sustainable development.
