Zimbabwean ZICUFA welcomes Cuba's removal from terrorist list

Harare, January 16, 2025 – The Zimbabwe-Cuba Friendship Association (ZICUFA) today reiterated its condemnation of the United States blockade of the Caribbean island, while welcoming its removal from the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

The United States government announced on January 14 the removal of Cuba from the State Department's list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, which despite its limited scope, is a decision that points in the right direction, said the ZICUFA statement.

The Zimbabwean solidarity association demonstrated this step in line with the sustained and firm demand of the government and people of the Caribbean nation, friends in the world, their compatriots abroad, political, religious and social organizations and numerous political figures from the United States and other countries.

We, as a friendship organization, express our gratitude to everyone for their contribution and sensitivity, in order to put an end to specific coercive measures that, together with many others, seriously damage the Cuban economy and have a severe impact on the population.

According to ZICUFA, the economic blockade and a large part of the added coercive measures in force since 2017 to further strengthen it, continue in force, with full extraterritorial impact and in violation of International Law and the human rights of all Cubans.

Friends in Zimbabwe denounced the continued illegal and aggressive persecution of fuel supplies, as well as legitimate international medical cooperation agreements, Cuba's international financial transactions, among other consequences of the blockade imposed on the island.

ZICUFA Secretary General Ernest Nyatanga conveyed the association's strong condemnation of the lifelong blockade against a sovereign state and the demand that all remaining coercive restrictions be lifted.
