Harare, June 17, 2025 – Zimbabwe and Cuba are promoting the strengthening of bilateral relations in the fields of higher education, science, and innovation within the framework of the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation Development, Honorable Frederick Shava, received the Cuban Ambassador, Her Excellency Susellys Pérez Mesa, with whom he discussed the potential for cooperation in various areas.
Shava and Pérez Mesa reviewed the progress of ongoing projects under their ministry's mandate, which could yield results in consolidating economic and commercial ties.
The Minister and the Ambassador discussed the invitation to attend the important international forum, University 2026, in the capital of the Caribbean state.
Shava also recalled his visits to Cuba since 1981 and reaffirmed Zimbabwe's historic stance against the US blockade, a topic he said was close to his heart since his previous post as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
He also praised the legacy of the Revolution's historic leader, Fidel Castro Ruz, and his friendship with the African country's founding father, Robert Mugabe.
The Ambassador took advantage of the meeting to update the Cuban government on the Science and Innovation-based Management System, as well as potential common interests stemming from the Zimbabwean government's desire to strengthen these areas.
