Blocking humanitarian aid to Cuba is criminal and shameful

Although the extraterritorial application of sanctions against Cuba is illegal in the United Kingdom, it is not the first time that the association “Cubans in the UK” has been affected by this type of measure. We have also had difficulties using the services of other platforms including, Eventbrite, PayPal, and Gofundme, in previous initiatives.

It is cruel to obstruct humanitarian aid intended to save lives in Cuba or in any other country. The application of collective sanctions violates international humanitarian law.

Solidarity: Time to end sanctions on Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela

London, February 13 - Under the motto, "Trump has gone - time to end sanctions on Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela", a virtual event organized by the solidarity campaigns in the United Kingdom with these three countries was held today.

Cuba's Ambassador to London, Barbara Elena Montalvo, stressed that an unprecedented 242 sanctions, with 136 of them having extraterritorial effects, were applied by the Trump Administration against the island. In a tight summary, she mentioned the most significant ones and examples of the damages they cause.

Five more nominations for Nobel Peace Prize made on behalf of Cuban medical brigades

A further five Members of Parliament and British academics proposed Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize award at the end of January. This brings the total number of public nominations from the UK made with the support of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign to 42, and includes 28 parliamentarians and 14 academics.

Another four British MPs nominate Cuban medical brigades for the Nobel Peace Prize

A further four British Members of Parliament have made official nominations for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade.

John McDonnell MP, Ian Mearns MP, Zarah Sultana MP and Angus MacNeil MP, all received confirmation of their official nominations to the Nobel Prize Committee in January. This brings the total number of British parliamentarians to have nominated the Cuban medics to 26, plus a further eleven academics.

The 22nd British parliamentarian to nominate Cuba's medical brigades for the #NobelPeacePrize21

Jeremy Corbyn is the 22nd British parliamentarian to formally nominate Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade (HRIMB) for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. Jeremy was elected MP for Islington North in London in 1983 and was leader of the Labour Party from 2015-19.

In support of his nomination he said:

“Since Hurricane Katrina, the HRIMB have shown themselves unsurpassable in their sheer determination to volunteer anywhere at any time to save lives, be that into a widespread natural disaster or epidemic.”
