Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe, Dr. Frederick Shava, receives Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba, Ambassador Yenielys Regueiferos Linares

Harare, January 24, 2024 – The minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Dr. Frederick Shava, received the Ambassador Yenielys Regueiferos Linares, Charge d´Affaires of Cuba, at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.

Cuba explores new trade ties with Zimbabwe

The Cuban Ambassador in Harare, Carmelina Ramírez Rodríguez, receives a prominent Zimbabwean businessman, Mr. Omar Anis, President of the Company, A A Omar & Company, to exchange about Cuba's business opportunities with the Zimbabwean business sector. At the meeting, the interest of both parties in exploring economic potential was ratified, to diversify commercial ties. Counselor Yoisy Ford was also present.

 

Cuba and Zimbabwe expand collaboration in the pharmaceutical industry sector

The Cuban ambassador to Zimbabwe, Carmelina Ramírez Rodríguez, in an interview with the local newspaper "The Sunday Mail" commented that both countries are working towards the establishment of a state-of-the-art plant to produce medicines in the southern country. The diplomat reported on Cuba's development in the production of vaccines to combat Covid-19, as despite the US blockade, Cuba, a small Caribbean island, has achieved this scientific advance in the biotechnology sector.

The Vice President and Minister of Health and Childcare of Zimbabwe, Constantino Chiwenga received the Ambassador of Cuba, Carmelina Ramírez Rodríguez. The minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technological Development, Amon Murwira and other senior health officials also participated in the meeting.

Chiwenga highlighted his country's cooperation with the largest of the Antilles, mainly in the health and education sectors. He highlighted the performance of the Cuban Medical Brigade since the time of Zimbabwean independence. He congratulated Cuba on the success of the Covid-19 vaccines and made it clear that this achievement will also benefit Zimbabwe and the world. Both sides pledged to continue strengthening relations, especially in the international arena, as the two face similar challenges, including being under US sanctions.
