At the UN General Assembly

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at the thematic meeting on the working methods of the General Assembly held within the framework of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the General Assembly New York, 27 March, 2019.

Co-Chairs,

Cuba endorses the statement by the delegation of Algeria on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement.

We have noted the efforts of some Main Committee Bureaus, to share among them useful experiences for their working methods.

Although we consider that this exchange has improved in relation to previous years, this has not been the case among the bureaus and the membership of the full committees, which is, in our view, the first step to follow in order to achieve an effective improvement of the working methods.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at the General Assembly Meeting to Commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. New York, March 25, 2019

Madam President,

My delegation thanks you for the convening of this commemorative meeting marking the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

My delegation recognizes and reaffirms the results of the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and other Related Intolerance, held in Durban, and considers it a transcendental milestone in the struggle for equal rights among all human beings.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at the commemorative meeting of the General Assembly on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. New York, 25 March 2019.

Madam Chair,

Allow me to express our gratitude for convening this plenary meeting to pay tribute to the victims of one of the most gloomy and ignominious pages in human history – Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Slave trade and the terrible legacy of slavery are the root causes of profound social and economic inequality, hatred, fanaticism, racism and prejudice that continue to affect people of African descent.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at the thematic debate on the Role and Authority of the General Assembly held within the framework of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the Work of the General Assembly. New York, March 19, 2019.

Co-Chairs,

We appreciate the convening of this thematic debate on the Role and Authority of the General Assembly. We endorse the statement by the delegation of Algeria on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement.

When we speak of the General Assembly, we refer to all the States it comprises, under equal conditions and without distinction, for this reason, it is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN.

73 UNGA: Statement by Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of FMC and Member of the Council of the State of the Republic of Cuba to the 63rd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). New York, 14 March 2019.

Madame Chair,

On behalf of the Cuban government and people, I convey greetings to you and to the distinguished personalities attending this 63rd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

The priority issue is of significant importance in order to seek viable alternatives that contribute to transforming the reality in which millions of women are still living worldwide. It is not enough for rights to be recognized in international instruments or laws to be passed, if there is no genuine political will within each of the States for their implementation.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at Briefing by the Secretary-General on the United Nations financial situation. New York, March 1st, 2019

We fully endorse the statement by the State of Palestine on behalf of the Group of 77 and China. We appreciate the Secretary-General's initiative to seek solutions to the critical financial situation of the Organization.

Cuba, like so many other countries, has warned for years about the risks that unpaid assessments owed to the United Nations entail to the Organization.

Our responsibility as members of this Organization is clear, to confirm this, we just need to read the UN Charter, whose article 17 does not give rise to interpretations.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the Work of the General Assembly. New York, February 28, 2019.

Co-Chairs,

The Cuban delegation associates itself with the statement by Algeria on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Cuba considers that the question of the Revitalization of the General Assembly is a priority. During the seventy-second session we constructively and systematically participated in the negotiations of resolution A/RES/72/313 adopted by consensus.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at Thirty-third session of the Committee of the Whole of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). New York, 27 February 2019.

Dear Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean,

Distinguished representatives of the Member States and Observers of the Commission,

73 UNGA: Statement by Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodriguez Abascal, Deputy Permanent Representative and Chargé D'affaires a.i. of Cuba to the UN, at a Security Council Meeting on the situation in Venezuela. New York, 26 February 2019.

Mr. President,

The Government of the United States, with the reckless complicity of several countries and actors, staged a dangerous provocation intended to violate the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through the use of pressure and force, putting the lives of thousands of people at risk.

The attempt to enter Venezuela by force, under the pretext of delivering and distributing an alleged humanitarian aid, is a serious violation of international law and of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, which must be denounced.

73 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at the intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council Reform. New York, February 25, 2019.

Co-Chairs,

We appreciate the convening of this meeting and we will focus our statement on the elements included in the letter from the Co-Chairs, dated February 18, 2019.

Before tackling the elements proposed in your letter, we reiterate that the Security Council reform process should be based on a comprehensive and broad approach, addressing all substantive issues related to the five key issues, namely: the question of membership, the number of members, regional representation, working methods and the decision-making process, including the question of the veto.
