Director General of the indonesian Foreign Ministry receives the Cuban Ambassador

Jakarta, Mayo 19.- At the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ambassador of Cuba in this country, Tania Velázquez López, was received by the Director General for Europe and America, Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya.

During the meeting, the Indonesian Director General  alluded to the historical political and cooperation ties that unite both nations. He praised the altruistic Cuban medical collaboration that supported the Indonesian people after earthquakes and tsunamis that the Asian nation has faced, which has remained in the memory of its people. He recalled that many children born in the affected areas, after the solidary support of Cuban doctors, have been given Indonesian-Cuban combined names.

For her part, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the historical and mutual support in the multilateral arena, while thanking the invariable position of Indonesia, throughout all of these years, in favor of the Cuban Resolution on the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

During the meeting, Director General Ngurah was accompanied by the Director of America II of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Darianto Harsono.

The Embassy of Cuba and the Indonesian Foreign Ministry are currently working together for the next visit to Cuba of a delegation, headed by the Director General, Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya, to carry out inter-ministerial political consultations.

This will be Director General Ngurah's second visit to the Caribbean island, while the first one was made as part of his country's delegation to the South-South Summit, held in Havana in 2000 on which occasion, he expressed with emotion,  had the opportunity to shake hands with the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro.
