Declaration of the Commission on International Relations of the National People’s Power Assembly on the Summit of the Americas

Havana, May 14, 2022- In recent days, high officials from the US Government have ratified their intention to exclude Cuba from the next Summit of the Americas scheduled to be held from June 8 to 10 this year. This position is totally in tune with the claims and pressures of anti-Cuban far-right sectors and their main spokespersons at the US Congress.  There is not a single reason that may justify the exclusion of any country of Our America from that Summit.

The Commission on International Relations of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba expresses full support to the statements and the denunciation made on April 25 last by Comrade Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the face of this new  act of aggression of  the United States against Cuba, including the strong pressures and threats of the US government against numerous Latin American and Caribbean governments, in an attempt to silence their legitimate claims  in favor of the presence of Cuba in  the aforementioned continental meeting.

It rejects the systematic campaigns of lies and disinformation promoted by the United States, which are intended to portray a reality that does not exist in Cuba, for which it fabricates fake news, manipulates images and disseminates lies about alleged persecuted, tortured or missing people.

With unparalleled cynicism Cuba has been included in spurious and unilateral lists, such as the one listing up countries that promote terrorism and trafficking in persons, among others, all of that to try to justify its criminal policy of economic suffocation, political isolation attempts and the promotion of subversion, in an attempt to achieve what they call a ‘change of regime’ and, consequently, the overthrowing of our Revolution.

It reiterates its condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, which has lasted for more than 60 years, since it is a flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of all of our people which qualifies as an act of genocide and has been rejected by the international community through 29 consecutive resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

It denounces the actions of the US government which deliberately and opportunistically tightened to unprecedented extremes the blockade in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic through the introduction of 243 new economic coercive measures which remain fully in force under the current Biden administration.

It sincerely appreciates the dignified and fraternal solidarity of governments, parliaments and peoples of our region which call for the United States not to exclude Cuba from the Ninth Summit of the Americas and to put an end to the criminal economic suffocation policy against Cuba. This call in favor of Cuba’s participation on an equal footing deserves maximum respect and gratitude. Their solidarity is fully genuine; it is a spontaneous response to discriminatory actions against countries of the region and reflects the feelings of the peoples of Our America which have made their voice heard.

Cuba supports all legitimate efforts to promote integration based on civil coexistence, peace, respect for diversity and solidarity in the entire hemisphere, a position that is endorsed by its broadly recognized legacy.  We unconditionally support any legitimate proposal of concrete solutions to the most pressing problems facing our peoples.

The US government deceives itself when attempting to silence the serene but firm voice of Cuba in favor of the right of Latin American and Caribbean peoples to defend their sovereignty, their aspirations to build ever more just and inclusive societies and live in a world of peace, against the imposition of imperialist mechanisms and designs.  As was pointed out by the Foreign Minister of Cuba, the United States should understand, once and for all, that the Latin American and Caribbean region has changed forever and that there is no room for the re-establishment of the Monroe Doctrine and the pan-American vision fought against by José Martí, against which we will firmly and faithfully continue to fight.
