Athens Jul 20 As part of the different actions carried out in Greece to celebrate Cuba's National Rebellion Day, which is commemorated on July 26, a fraternal meeting was held in this capital. Convened by the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity and other organizations that support the struggle of the Cuban people, an emotional act was held at the premises of the Panhellenic Union of Wrestlers of Makronisos, attended by a large group of members of the movement of solidarity with Cuba and Latin American friends residing in Greece. The president of the Greek Committee for Peace Stavros Tassos was present. Déspina Markou, in her words, spoken on behalf of the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity, highlighted the importance of the date and the solidarity and support that the Greek people permanently show towards Cuba and its struggles. Once again, the cessation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade maintained by the United States government against the Cuban people for more than 60 years was demanded. In addition, AHC member Babis Zafiratos recited his poem "Epigram for the Heroes of M-26-7", which he wrote especially for the occasion. The Cuban ambassador to Greece, Aramís Fuente Hernández, highlighted the historical significance of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, highlighting that the events that characterized that heroic action marked the beginning of a new and decisive stage in the rich history of struggles of the Cuban people, which culminated in the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959. The diplomat, who also referred to other issues regarding the current situation on the island, thanked the noble Greek people for their permanent solidarity and support to their Cuban brothers and affirmed that this friendship has been forged over many years and based on common and reciprocal feelings. The activity concluded with a friendship party enlivened with Cuban music.
