CELAC representatives call for regional unity in Argentina

Buenos Aires, 18 August 2022. Representatives of some thirty member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on Thursday called in Argentina to preserve unity to face current challenges.

During the 35th Meeting of CELAC National Coordinators, held at the San Martin Palace in this capital, participants demanded respect for diversity and the search for consensus to solve the problems affecting the region.

Speaking at the meeting, the Director General of Multilateral Affairs and International Law at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Rodolfo Benitez, highlighted Argentina’s performance as CELAC pro tempore president. He urged to work to reach a higher stage of institutionalization, in accordance with the legacy of the founders of this integration mechanism.

During the meeting, the Argentinian coordinator, Gustavo Martinez, presented a report on the activities carried out this year by his country.

In 2022, Argentina emphasized pillars such as social, economic and productive recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic; and the use of science, technology and innovation for development and inclusion.

It also promoted cooperation in the fields of health care, the environment and disaster risk management issues; culture and education for the people; relations with extra-regional partners; women’s empowerment and gender issues.
