Cuban PM Lays Wreath at Independence Monument

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz yesterday began his official three-day visit to Cambodia to boost ties between the two nations.

His trip comes after Prime Minister Hun Sen paid a visit to Cuba last month which resulted in the signing of three Memoranda of Understandings.

During the visit, Marrero Cruz will pay a courtesy call to King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Place, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s statement.

He is scheduled to meet Senate President Chhay Chhum and National Assembly president Heng Samrin.

The visit of Manuel Marrero Cruz will “reaffirm the long-standing and friendly relations between Cambodia and Cuba and underscores the need to further deepen and broaden cooperation for the greater benefits of the two countries and peoples,” the Ministry statement added.

The Cuban Prime Minister yesterday had a meeting with Mr Hun Sen and both presided over the signing ceremony of two documents  that will expand bilateral cooperation in education and culture.

Marrero Cruz yesterday also laid wreaths at the Independence Monument and the Royal Memorial Statue of late King Father Norodom Sihanouk.

Mr Hun Sen visited Cuba last month and held bilateral meetings with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal Bermudes to discuss ways to further strengthen the strong ties between the two countries and to expand cooperation in various fields.
