THE BAHAMAS, 22 October 2016.-The Embassy of Cuba in The Bahamas celebrated the Cuban Culture Day of the at the headquarters of the diplomatic mission in the Caribbean country.
The event started with the attendees singing the National Anthem of Cuba as a sign of the solemnity of the gathering and as an expression of Cuban identity.
The participants included Bahamian intellectuals and artists, members of the solidarity group with Cuba, leaders of religious groups, Cubans resident in the Bahamas, Cuban collaborators in Nassau and other Bahamians friends of Cuba.
The event exhibited art works of the Cuban resident Silvia Irene Blanco Hidalgo, the Health Brigade member Mohammed Helal Uddin and the Cuban painter Edel Bordón, as well as poems authored by collaborator Luis Manuel Labrada Batista.
The Cuban cuisine and the Cuban mixology took a prominent space in the celebration, which offered an opportunity to taste various drinks and dishes of Cuban cuisine.
A group of young Cubans shook the audience with an excellent dance performance that combined traditional Cuban rhythms and most recent musical expressions.
The Cuban Ambassador to The Bahamas, Ismara Vargas Walter, referred to culture as an essential part in the formation of Cuban identity and nationality. She recalled the historical context in which the National Anthem of Cuba was sang for the first time148 years ago. In her speech, the diplomat described the anthem as a call to battle, an evocation of our independence and sovereignty and a vibrant expression of the spirit of the Cubans.
From Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, Cubans celebrated the Cuban Culture Day reaffirming their pride to belong to this nation.
