Oslo, November 9, 2022. The Cuban ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, was received by Ine Eriksen Søreide, member of the Norwegian Parliament for the Conservative Party (Høyre) and Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Storting.
The Cuban diplomat conveyed the will of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (ANPP) to develop its ties with the Norwegian legislative body. Likewise, she expressed her willingness to work together for moving forward in the relations between the two countries in the parliamentary field, in particular between the Committee chaired by Mrs. Søreide and the Commission on International Relations of the Cuban Parliament.
The Ambassador referred to the intense legislative activity in which the ANPP is currently involved for the approval of legal norms that develop the contents of the new Constitution of the Republic approved in 2019. She commented that, as part of that process, several laws have been adopted, the most recent being the Family Code.
It was a good opportunity for addressing other issues of interest, like the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba and the recent approval by the UN General Assembly, for the thirtieth time, of a resolution asking for the ending of that unjust policy.
Vibeke Rysst-Jensen, head of the International Department of the Storting, and Daffne Ernesto Mirabal García, second secretary of the Embassy, were also present at the meeting. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
