Kingston, 7 December 2022. Diplomats from the Cuban Embassy in Jamaica, led by Ambassador Fermin Sanchez, attended the 50th Anniversary Cuba-CARICOM commemoration event, convened by the Cuba solidarity movement and former members of the PNPYO youth movement.
The event was attended by People's National Party (PNP) Leader, Mark Golding, MP; PNP President, Angela Brown Burke, MP; and former Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson, ON, PC, QC, MP, B.A, virtually; former diplomats and graduates in Cuba, as well as other guests who gathered to highlight the significance in the region of the establishment of relations between the CARICOM nations and Cuba.
The meeting between friends was propitious to reiterate the unconditional support of the organisations present in the struggle of the Cuban people against the illegal and criminal economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and to recognise Cuba's relevant contribution to the social development of the Caribbean nations, particularly Jamaica.
Before the audience, Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, highlighted the deep historical and friendly ties that unite the peoples of Jamaica and Cuba, while thanking the permanent solidarity of the peoples and governments of the Caribbean in the fight against the blockade. The diplomat ratified Cuba's will to continue expanding cooperation with the region and the firm decision of the Cuban people not to give up its principles.
