The Cambodian government has signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Cuba on cooperation in the fields of health, education, and international affairs.
Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Facebook that the Cambodian Ministry of Health signed MoU with Cuba’s Public Health Ministry.
Two other MoU included cooperation planning inked between Cambodia’s Foreign affairs ministry and Cuba’s Foreign ministry and strengthened cooperation between Cuba’s Higher Education Institute and Cambodia’s National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Hun Sen also asked Health Miniter Mam Bun Heng to study the possible importation or production of vaccines against cancer and diabetes from Cuba to Cambodia because the Kingdom has a high number of people diagnosed with both diseases.
The premier visited Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology founded by Fidel Castro, former President of Cuba.
“Cuba helped Cambodia in the fight against imperialism and the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime,” Mr Hun Sen said, noting that in 1979, Cuba provided sugar to Cambodia which also had a Cuban-run orphanage and ferry.
He said that he wants to see improved diplomatic cooperation between both nations.
