Kingston, 27 January 2023. Under Martí's maxim of "Honour, honour", members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica "Antonio Maceo" (ACRJ), members of the medical and education brigades, and the Cuban diplomatic mission gathered at the Cuban Embassy to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the birth of José Martí.
The act began with the placement of a bouquet of white roses at the foot of the bust of Martí that guards the entrance of the diplomatic headquarters, as a well-deserved tribute to the most universal of Cubans.
Osvaldo Cárdenas, president of the ACRJ, analysed Martí's thought and the Apostle's call for the unity of Cubans living inside and outside the national territory.
The occasion was the occasion for the signing of the Code of Ethics by new collaborators of the Educational and Health Bridadas. Similarly, Everton Hanna, on behalf of the Association of Graduate Students in Cuba, presented a recognition to the most integral educators, highlighting in his words the gratitude to Cuba for the opportunity it offers to young Jamaican professionals in centres of high studies in the Greater of the Antilles.
In his remarks to those present, Cuban Ambassador Fermin Quiñones Sanchez recalled the work of our National Hero during the Necessary War and the relevance of his emancipatory thinking to the Centenary Generation. He called on those present to "Unite and Win", to confront the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, the media campaigns and the political siege with which the US government intends to destroy the Cuban Revolution.
As part of the activity, collaborators recited the poems "A Martí" and "Homenaje a Martí" and Cuban resident Meliset Rodriguez performed "Cultivo una rosa blanca" and "La Guantanamera". To conclude the event, the documentary "José Martí", from the series "Maestros de América" was screened.
