On behalf of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica Mayor General Antonio Maceo, we wish to congratulate all our dear people on the occasion of International Workers' Day on May 1st 2023 and especially our working class, who work and strive in difficult and adverse circumstances, in a world in crisis, facing the aggressive policy of the most powerful imperialist power in the history of humanity and many of its main allies.
We join the actions that Cuban residents abroad and friends of Cuba are developing in many parts of the world, condemning and striving for an end to the US policy of blockade and aggression against Cuba, which after more than six decades, continues to be the main obstacle to the normal development of our country and its normal and fraternal relations with Cubans living abroad.
We welcome as an important contribution to the unity of our people inside and outside Cuba, the recent declarations of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez: "...we cannot be part of the politicisation of Cuban emigration with which the enemy traffics. We must defend a relationship with Cuban emigrants that makes it clear to them that we admire their triumphs and that their homeland respects them, looks at them proudly and awaits their return, always aspiring that they respect and defend the soil that saw them born and formed them with love.... I speak of those who, living anywhere in the world, retain their love for their country of origin and the desire for it to progress, despite the mountains of obstacles that they face in their relations with Cuba for a variety of reasons and unreasons. Those of us who are resisting and building here are counting on those Cubans who are not ashamed of their origins to help sustain the nation...".
