May 11, 2023. From May 6 to 11, the visit to Lao PDR, of the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) of the Republic of Cuba, Maury Hechavarria Bermúdez, took place to strengthen agricultural cooperation- livestock. The welcome and farewell at the airport was provided by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Siphaphai Saisongkham.
The visit made it possible to examine with his Lao counterpart the possibility of strengthening cooperation between the two ministries. In conversations with the vice head of MINAG, the Laotian Vice Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Thongphath Vongmany, pointed out that this meeting contributed to the strengthening of bilateral relations and mutual assistance and understanding between both countries.
During his stay in this capital, Hechavarría and his companions were also received by the minister of the branch, Phet Phomphiphack, and they visited agricultural farms dedicated to planting rice and various crops, as well as research. The dialogue with Phomphiphack took place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, during which both parties promised to promote collaboration ties and find new ways to strengthen them. Hechavarría and his entourage also participated in a business forum in which they exposed the potential of Cuba and the opportunities that the country offers for foreign investment. They also learned about the products in the export portfolio of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos, as well as the existing conditions to promote bilateral economic ties.
The MINAG delegation concluded its program of activities with a courtesy visit paid to Dr. Chaleune Yiapahoer, vice president of the Lao National Assembly, president of the Friendship Association and the Laos-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group.
As a result of the exchanges, an Action Plan was signed aimed at implementing the content of the MoU signed during the visit of the Cuban Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, in October 2022.
