TRIBUTE TO COMMANDER FIDEL CASTRO RUZ IN JAMAICA

Portmore, August 13th, 2023. On the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the birth of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, various organizations that take part of the movement of solidarity with Cuba, members of the Cuban diaspora, Cuban collaborators and the Cuban Embassy in this country, gathered in Portmore, Jamaica.

The central words of the event were in charge of the Cuban Ambassador to this Caribbean Island, H.E Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, who spoke about the current state of Fidel's thinking, his vision on Latin American and Caribbean integration, as well as his close ties with the Caribbean nations and especially with Jamaica, a land he visited on several occasions. The Cuban ambassador thanked the Jamaican people for their permanent support to Cuba in the fight against the US blockade against his country and demanded the elimination of Cuba from the illegal list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

The afternoon featured speeches by Osvaldo Cardenas on behalf of the "Antonio Maceo" Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica; Paul Burke, member of the board of the Cuba-Jamaica Friendship Association; Christopher Simpson, President of the Left Alliance for Democracy and Socialism (LANDS), among others. In their talk, the speakers addressed passages highlighting Fidel's legacy and his spirit and actions of solidarity, internationalism, and anti-imperialism.

The meeting was a reflection of the deep affection, admiration and respect for Fidel that different generations of Cubans and Jamaicans profess. (Embacuba Jamaica)
