Havana, September 15, 2023- The Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), Maimunah Modh Sharif, is in Cuba to attend the Summit of Heads of State and Government of G77 and China.
During her stay on the Island, the Executive Director has held meetings with the President of the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urbanism (INOTU), Raúl Acosta Gregorich, and with the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, among other authorities. Likewise, he has visited UN-Habitat projects in Havana and Pinar del Río provinces. As published in her personal account on X: "Cuba is a champion in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. They are prioritizing sustainable urbanization as one of the three strategic pillars at the state level along with climate management and food security."
The Cuban authorities are very proud to receive, for the first time in Havana, the UN-HABITAT's Executive Director and her team, which is composed by Runze Wang, special assistant, and Elkin Velásquez Monsalve, regional representative, Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, UN-HABITAT.
