Cuban Ambassador presents letters of credence to the President of Ghana.

Ambassador Anette Chao García presented to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the letters of credence accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in this African country.

The solemn ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace of this capital in the presence of the Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. Mercedes Suarez Orama, head of the Cuban Medical Brigade, attended the ceremony on behalf of Cuba.

During the cordial meeting, the Cuban Ambassador expressed to the Ghanaian President her willingness to strengthen the diplomatic relations of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, and thanked the African people and the African state for their support to Cuba.

Akufo-Addo highlighted the historic ties that bind Ghana and Cuba, recalling the meeting between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Ghana's first President, Kwame Nkrumah, at the Theresa Hotel in New York in 1960.

He also mentioned the close ties that the Cuban president maintained with Jerry Rawlings, who visited the Caribbean island several times during his term of office (1981-2001).
