New York, 30 May 2017.The 40th anniversary of Vietnam’s membership to the United Nations was celebrated at the Organization’s headquarters, with the presence of the Prime Minister of the Asian country.
UN Secretary General, Antonio Gutérrez and the President of the General Assembly, Ambassador Peter Thompson, commended Vietnam’s role within the Organization throughout these years and its contribution to the efforts of the United Nations as regards peace-keeping and the promotion of development, as well as, its leadership in the defense of the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter.
The Vietnamese premier, for his part, reiterated the firm commitment of his country with those principles and devoted part of his intervention to reflect on his country’s work at regional and international levels.
The diplomatic activity was broadly attended by Ambassadors and other diplomats accredited to the United Nations Organization. In a brief greetings talk, the Permanent Representative of Cuba, Anayansi Rodríguez, who was also part, reiterated to the Vietnamese Prime Minister the feelings of brotherhood and solidarity of the Caribbean nation towards the Asian country.
