Spanish Town, 10 January 2024. Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, and the Second Secretary of this diplomatic mission, Rolando Dávila Gallardo, attended the 47th anniversary ceremony of the "José Martí" Technical High School.
During the activity, Alexander Shaw, president of the Association of Graduates of the centre, reiterated his gratitude for the gesture of the Cuban government and people in donating this facility and recalled the presence of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz at his first graduation.
For her part, the Jamaican historian Verene Shepherd, President of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, highlighted in her speech the fighting capacity and resilience of the Cuban people in the face of the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
In his words to those present, the Ambassador recalled the significance of the school as a sign of solidarity and friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Jamaica, and recalled the special relationship of the Cuban Apostle with the children.
As part of the event, an awards ceremony was held, recognising the outstanding work of a group of students in different academic spheres.
