January 17, 2024.- The ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, presented the Friendship Medal, this afternoon, to the President of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero as the main representative of the union organization and its members.
Decree-Law #30, from December 10, 1979, creates “Friendship” Medal, which is conferred to citizens, organizations or institutions, Cubans or foreigners, that individually or collectively have had an outstanding activity towards the achievement of a fairer society and the strengthening of fraternal friendship links, cooperation and mutual help among the peoples.
For this reason, The President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples has proposed to confer the said Medal to four personalities, members of the solidarity movements and, to the trade union organization “Nigerian Labor Congress”, in acknowledgment of their support and backing to strengthen and deepen the links with our people, based upon brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation at both political and labor levels, for the excellent historical relations with the Cuban trade union movement, as well as for the outstanding participation in the campaigns in defense of the Revolution and denunciation of the aggressions against Cuba, especially those related to the condemnation of the unjust United States commercial, economic and financial blockade against Cuba
For this reason, upon the former fundaments and in accordance with Article 128, subparagraph ñ) of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, the President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez has decided to grant this recognition to such a prestigious organization.
Representatives of all union organizations affiliated to the NLC, members of solidarity and friends of Cuba were present at the ceremony.
The Third Secretary, Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot, was also present on the Cuban side.
