Nairobi, February 26, 2024- The 6th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 6) begins today at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya. The Cuban delegation attending the event is led by the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), José Fidel Santana Núñez.
The Cuban delegation will develop an intense work program that will include meetings with environmental authorities from Member States, United Nations System and other entities and organizations in the multilateral environmental field. Likewise, Cuba will actively participate in the consideration of the draft resolutions as well as in the High Level Dialogues, in defense of the positions of developing countries, particularly Small Island Developing States, demanding urgent action, under the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, to address the enormous environmental challenges of climate change, the loss of biodiversity and pollution.
Backed by strong science, political resolve and engagement with society, the Assembly will be an opportunity for world governments, civil society groups, the scientific community and all sectors to shape the global environmental policy.
