We live in a time when most countries in Europe choose to subordinate themselves unconditionally in their effort to join the club of the strongest. Where we see ruling politicians abandon any semblance of autonomy and where popular opinion is above all somewhat managed, manipulated or collapsed. Existential threats should preferably be hidden in the noise of militarism and rearmament.
Hypocrisy and self-righteousness have no limits, but the price is the cynicism and hopelessness that spread throughout society.
Cuba shows by its example that it is possible for a small country to maintain its dignity and choose its own path. That solidarity, compassion and socialist democracy can be guiding principles that should not be abandoned despite the harshness of circumstances.
For this reason, Cubans are paying an extremely high and unfair price. Because that is precisely the goal of the blockade: to punish into submission those who cannot be forced to obey.
The Cuban revolution is alive and is not limited to an uprising in 1959, but is dynamic, continues its development, with a social idea based on justice, equality and independence,
With its existence, Cuba gives hope to the popular movements that cry out for peace, reason and solidarity and that dare to oppose the genocide in Palestine.
For this reason, the Swedish-Cuban Association considers it its task to continually question the illegal blockade with all the means at our disposal, both practical and political. Specifically, it is about creating respite for the Cuban people through fundraising, local projects and medical campaigns and deepening and strengthening our ties with Cuba.
But also to develop our cooperation with our sister organizations in Europe to question and confront politicians and institutions that prefer to bow to the dictates of the United States, instead of allowing their own citizens and companies the opportunity to have an exchange with Cuba.
We demand that the UN votes against the blockade and that the EU's legal protections for those who trade with Cuba be translated into practical policies.
Stop the unfounded and arbitrary inclusion of Cuba on the list of terrorist countries!
Solidarity is the weapon with which we fight against the blockade!
