Mr. President,
We appreciate the report of the Director General and the work of the Organization on the ground, following the adoption of resolution EBSS7.R1 on December 10.
The report illustrates in detail the situation that we observe day after day through the alarming images that reach us from the occupied Palestinian territories.
Mr. President,
It is not surprising that the World Health Organization echoes what the rest of the United Nations system also involved in this area has stated, that the Gaza Strip is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, which, in terms of health, has caused significant levels of mortality, morbidity, displacement and massive degradation of the health system and disruption of public health and other vital infrastructure.
The number of victims is worrying, with more than 23 thousand victims and 63 thousand injured. It is all the more worrying that women and children represent 70% of the victims. This shows the flagrant violation of the principles of distinction, proportionality and humanity in this conflict by the Occupying Power.
Indiscriminate bombings, widespread destruction, increased health needs and restrictions on the entry of fuel, goods, medical supplies and health personnel have devastated the health system in the Gaza Strip, effectively lacerating the right to inalienable health of the Palestinian people.
Cuba condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli bombings against the civilian population and against hospitals and health infrastructures, which constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, and have already cost the lives of thousands of people, including health professionals and more than a hundred. Humanitarian staff.
The aggression against Gaza must stop, the transfer of humanitarian aid must be authorized and a permanent ceasefire must be established to lead to the self-determination of the Palestinian people.
Thank you so much.
