Cuba presents in United Nations book on the current international economic order.

New York, April 26, 2024.- The book “The current international economic order: An obstacle to development. The main challenge for the Group of 77 and China,” was presented this Friday by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, at the United Nations headquarters in this city.

Present were the president of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Paula Ojeda Narváez; the Director of Outreach of the UN Department of Global Communications, Maher Nasser, as well as members of the Secretariat of the Group of 77 and China, United Nations officials, ambassadors and representatives of missions accredited to the UN.

While presenting the book, Fernández de Cossío explained that the text, result of the effort and contribution of several experts and academics from Cuba and other countries, seeks to integrate diverse perspectives on the complex problems of international economic relations and the challenges of development, but who share a common approach on the need to build a different international economic order.

The Deputy Foreign Minister further expressed that the book draws from Cuban activity within the framework of the Group of 77 and China, and in particular from the experience acquired during its chairmanship of the Group during 2023.

The Cuban diplomat also considered that it represents a modest contribution from Cuba that could serve as a substantive reference for the future work of the Group of 77 and China.

Before concluding the presentation, Fernández de Cossío announced that the book will have its official launch next week in Havana.

Likewise, the president of ECOSOC, Paula Ojeda Narváez, thanked Cuba "for putting at the center of our pressing questions some guiding reflections that will allow us to continue thinking about development from the perspective of the global south, thereby contributing to the collective construction of a world economic order based on the principles of G77 plus China". This is solidarity and cooperation", she added.

During the subsequent exchange, various participants highlighted Cuba's initiative and agreed on the usefulness of the book for the work of the Group of 77 and China.
