Minister of Agriculture receives Cuban delegation

St. John's. June 19, 2017.On the morning of Monday, June 19, the Honorable Arthur Nibbs, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Lands, inaugurated the program of activities that an extensive delegation of specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba is developing in Antigua and Barbuda. Speaking at the "Multipurpose Center", Minister Nibbs thanked Cuba for the assistance provided to enable the comprehensive development of agriculture and the implementation of a perspective program to ensure food security in Antigua and Barbuda. Words of appreciation were also voiced by the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Jedidiah Maxime and other directors of that ministry.

The Cuban ambassador, Gustavo Véliz Olivares, reiterated Cuba's expressed desire to collaborate and expand relations with Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean, which is a Cuban foreign policy priority.

The delegation of eleven Cuban specialists is visiting Antigua and Barbuda as a continuation of the work visit  made to Cuba in May by Minister Nibbs and a delegation from that ministry,  where they were received by the Minister of Agriculture of Cuba, Gustavo Rollero and visited several research and production centers linked to the agricultural branch in Cuba.

The collaboration between Cuba and Antigua also extends to public health, the road program and education, the latter with the fulfillment of an annual program of scholarships for training students in Cuban universities, which have also graduated agricultural engineers and veterinarians currently serving in the Ministry of Agriculture of Antigua and Barbuda.
